[Reminder] Publication Of Standards For Obstetric And Neonatal Services

As part of Health Regulation Department (HRD) ongoing commitment to develop and improve standards
of healthcare services provided in Dubai with the emphasis of offering a comprehensive services within the best practices in parallel with international standards while ensuring the highest degree of patients’ safety and reduce medical errors. And based on HRD pledge to update its strategic partners with the latest rules and guidelines, it ishereby to announce the following:
Standards For Obstetric and Neonatal Services
Which include the requirements and terms of providing these services based standards that take into account patient safety and comply with the latest regulations and practices in this field.
These standards will assure regulating obstetric and neonatal care services in health facilities in Dubai and is based on achieving the optimal health outcomes, and the best level of care and safety for the mother and neonatal and providing the appropriate stipulations of safe and effective care in the field.
The new standards are based on five basic criteria: health facility design requirements, Obstetric Service Requirements, Neonatal Service Requirements, general service requirements and key performance indicators as a measure of the quality of services provided at the facility. The new standards also provide for the organization of practices for the mentioned services, clinical responsibilities, professional staff requirements and standards for providing such services within the facilities.
The new standards also addressed regulations of services such as, for example but not limited to, obstetric and neonatal care requirements, risk assessment management, pregnancy guidelines (high / low risk), blood management, infection control, transfer policy, nutrition needs and discharge and follow up.
This document was developed by the HRD in collaboration with Subject Matter Experts. The Health Regulation Department would like to acknowledge and thank these professionals for their dedication towards improving the quality and safety of healthcare services.
